cure panic attacks without seeing a doctor ?

December 30, 2009

I have been having panic attacks for almost 4 years now and i dont know what to do . I dont know what brings them on and i dont want to have to see a doctor to cure them . Is there anybody out there that suffers from panic attacks and if so what do you do to get through them ?

If you have been having panic attacks for 4 years, you do need to see a doctor and see if there is anything else going on. Having panic attacks for so long and not seeking treatment can have severe affects on your body that are irreversible and serious. If you still don’t want to see a doctor knowing that, then here a some things that might help you out.

1) Reduce the amount of caffeine in your diet. That includes pop, chocolate, and some over the counter pain killers (like Excedrin). Also, energy drinks (Monster, 5-Hour, etc.) and things that are like pure sugar. Caffeine increases heart rate and how fast your mind (seems) to be working. Increases in the heart rate like this can trigger panic attacks.

2) Breathing exercises. When you feel a panic attack coming on or after one has already started, focus on your breathing. Inhale. Exhale. Inhale. Exhale. Try practicing breathe control while you’re feeling well. You will get light-headed most likely, but when you’re having a panic attack you won’t so don’t worry about that.

3) Exercise. Light daily exercise has shown to help people with panic disorder minimize the severity and frequency of their attacks.

I would still suggest going to the doctor and trying some medications. There are some out there that are low dosages that help a lot. You really won’t understand how much the panic attacks are hurting you and interfering with your life until you don’t have them as much or at all anymore. Good luck with everything.

Do any of you use Vicodin for extreme pain relief?

December 28, 2009

Hi there, I’m having awful awful awful TMJ pain. Didn’t get any sleep last night what so ever. Just moaned and groaned and cried tring to relief the pain. Tyenol does NOTHING for me. I did heating pad, cold packs, massaging. Nothing helped. I remember my doctor proscribed me hydrocodone (generic of vicodin) 500mg take 1 to 2 pills every 6 to 8 hours after my son was born for bad headaches. I’ve done some research on it and most pregnant women who are in severe pain that is the 1st thing OB’s suggest to use, but not to use it after 32 weeks because there is a ‘possibility’ of the baby getting addicted. I have a Ob appointment on Thursday morning so i’ll let her know i’ll be taking them for the pain that i’m having. The hospital is a hour away and i’m not about to drive that in the nasty winter weather we are having in extreme pain. I need some relief, and having panic attacks and my anxiety go full blown because of the pain isn’t good for the baby either. I’m just wondering if you used vicodin and how much and did it work?
trust me i’ve tried everything and anything. no one knows how bad TMJ pain really is. It’s awful! I can’t imagine viocodine being different for me then what it was when I wasn’t pregnant. And most pregnant women who have bad TMJ flareups their Ob’s prescribe them vicodine. Like I said I’ll wait to tell my Ob on thursday morning to let her know that i’m going to take some as needed to releive some pain. I cannot take it anymore.

You really need to talk to your doctor about that. My obgyn prescribed me Vicodin when I had a tooth pulled and developed dry socket. But I would never take anything without first talking to your obgyn

I’m seriously having a panic attack?

December 26, 2009

I’m having a party and I invited about 30 people assuming about 15 to 20 will come but uh I’m pretty positive 30 if not more will be coming I need a zanex lol how can I chill out I don’t want to have to babysit. Any stress relief tricks?

Well first of all breathe. Next think of what the guests like, are they young do they like art, sports? If so make the party about that because if the guests are happy your job is a lot easier. Secondly you can’t do much about it. If need be try to distract yourself, think of a really hard question to solve in your head. And if your still stressed, don’t be afraid to vent hit a pillow scream into a wall, do something to make your self chill. Good Luck

when they get out of line… Smack ‘em in the head. That’s how i was told to behave as a kid. I’m pretty sure it works for older people too.

what is going on biologically in your brain when you are having a panic or anxiety attack?

December 25, 2009

I am just curious. Not what you feel but what is going on in your brain biologically that is causing these panic attack and anxiety? Like what goes on in the brain with your tissue and your chemicals in the brain that makes you so anxious? Also what can regulate these chemicals to make you not anxious? Besides medication. I am just wondering.

Your amigdala is a small part of your brain that is responsible for gut-level emotions like panic, fear, etc. It is sometimes called your "lizard brain" because evolutionarily it goes back really far. When you are having a panic attack this little guy thinks that you’re in danger because something triggered it.

As a result, the amigdala starts flooding you with adrenaline which causes a lot of the commons symptoms like a racing heart and a feeling like you need to escape from where ever you are. This is what is called the "fight or flight response."

Some people think that when you have a chronic panic or anxiety problem, it is because your amigdala has become too sensitive and it starts to interpret common, everyday things that pose no real threat to you as a possible source of danger. This sends you into "fight or flight" for no substantial reasons.

Your body is flooded with adrenaline and you don’t know what to do because there is not clear and present danger, so you have what they call a panic attack.

I’m no psychologist, but this is how I understand it to work. Hope this helps.

Is it possible to have a panic attack with absolutely no physical symptoms?

December 25, 2009

For example, is it possible to have a panic attack with just the mental aspect (deep sense of dread, fear of death, derealization, etc,) without physical symptoms such as shaking, and increased heartbeat?

then it would not be considered a "panic" attack. in clinical terms, when one panics, they are having the latter symptoms you stated.
